Privacy Policy
The short version
Chomp Rex has no accounts and no advertising, and the game works fully offline. The information that leaves your device is: what you choose to type for the public leaderboards (a name, and a country if you finish the game, with your score), and, only on the website and only if you accept, anonymous visit statistics from Google Analytics. The Android app does not use analytics.
What is stored on your device
- Your best scores and the name you typed for them.
- If you finish the game: the name, country and date you typed for the Hall of Great Dinos.
- Simple records, such as the furthest level you reached.
This is saved in your browser or app storage. You can delete it at any time by clearing the site data in your browser, or by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app.
What is sent to our server (the online leaderboards)
When a game ends with a score that can enter the HIGH SCORES (the best 10), or when you finish all 10 worlds and enter the Hall of Great Dinos, the game asks you for a name (and a country for the Hall). When you confirm, the following is sent to our server and shown publicly to every player:
- the name you typed (up to 10 characters) and, for the Hall, the country you typed (up to 14 characters);
- your score, the level you reached and the date.
The game tells you this on the name screen. Please do not use your real full name or any personal information: use a nickname. Names containing offensive words are replaced by "DINO".
- The HIGH SCORES keep only the best 10 results: when a better one arrives, the older entry is deleted.
- The Hall of Great Dinos keeps the best 100 finishers and shows the best 10.
Technical data and abuse prevention
To stop automated cheating, each game gets a random, signed identifier, and each submission stores a one-way salted hash of the network address (not the address itself, and it cannot be turned back into it). These records are used only to limit how many results one connection can send per hour, and are deleted automatically after 2 days.
While the game is open it also sends a small signal about every 30 seconds so the menu can show how many players are online. The server keeps the same kind of one-way hash of the network address, together with the time of the last signal, for up to 1 hour. It is not linked to any name or score.
Like any web server, our hosting provider may keep ordinary technical logs (such as IP addresses and requested pages) for a limited time for security and operation.
Why and how long
We process the name, country and score because you chose to enter them in a public leaderboard (your consent). They stay in the leaderboard until they are replaced by better results or until you ask us to delete them.
Your rights
You can ask us to delete or correct your entry at any time, and to tell you what we hold about you. Send the name, score and date shown on the leaderboard to the contact below.
Analytics on the website (Google Analytics, only if you accept)
The first time you open the website a banner asks whether we may use Google Analytics 4. Until you press Accept nothing is downloaded from Google, no cookie is set and nothing is sent. If you press No thanks, or your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal, it is never used.
- What it measures: pages visited, how long, the type of device and browser, the approximate place (country or city, worked out from the network address, which Google Analytics does not store), and a few game events with no name in them: a game started, a level reached, game over (with the level and score) and game finished.
- Cookies:
_gaand_ga_<id>(to tell visits apart), kept for up to 2 years in your browser. - Not used: advertising features, audience or ad personalisation (Google signals are switched off).
- Provider: Google, which acts for us; data can be processed outside the EU under the safeguards Google declares (for example standard contractual clauses). We keep analytics data for at most 2 months.
- Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time:
Other third parties
The game uses no advertising or social media services, and its pixel font is hosted together with the game. The leaderboard data is stored on the servers of our web hosting provider, which processes it on our behalf.
Children
The game is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. Parents: please tell children to use a nickname, or to skip the leaderboard (you can finish the name screen with the default name).
Changes
If this changes in the future (for example, if we add advertising), this policy will be updated before the change goes live and will say exactly what is collected and why.
